SWM Motor was established in 2016, it is a brand of Brilliance-Shineray, a Joint Venture between Brilliance Automotive and Shineray Motorcycle Company, one of China’s largest producers of motorbikes. The Joint Venture also produces cars under the Jinbei brand, which is owned by Brilliance as well. SWM started as an Italian manufacturer of motorbikes, and was taken over by Shineray in 2014. SWM China Sales Figures & Recent Highlights

SWM is a Chinese automotive brand that stands for Sichuan Wanxiang Motorcycle Co., Ltd. The brand, while having roots in motorcycle production, has expanded into the production of cars, SUVs, and other vehicles in recent years. SWM originated from an Italian motorcycle brand of the same name, which was founded in 1971. The brand was renowned for producing trial, enduro, and motocross bikes. However, the original Italian company faced financial difficulties and ceased operations in the 1980s. The rights to SWM were later acquired by China’s Shineray Group, leading to the revitalization of the brand, not just in motorcycles but also in automobiles.

Under the Chinese ownership, SWM branched out into the automotive sector, launching a range of SUVs, MPVs, and other passenger vehicles tailored for the Chinese market. One of the brand’s notable models is the SWM X7, an SUV that has garnered attention in the domestic market.

In 2019, SWM launched the G01, an SUV which the company promoted as a significant step in its automotive evolution. The model featured a range of modern amenities and tech features, positioning it as a competitor in the growing SUV segment in China. To aid in its automotive ambitions, SWM collaborated with international partners. This collaboration allowed SWM to access advanced technology and expertise to improve its offerings.
