Nissan Sales Data, Trends, Analysis & Current Lineup for the U.S Automotive Market

This is your hub for all of the Nissan sales data for the U.S market. Nissan used to be the perennial #3 of the Japanese manufacturers in the United States, and in 2016 it came within 50,000 sales of taking #2 from Honda after years of closing the gap, and in 2017 the gap was just 46,000 sales. However, pushing for volume instead of profit by discounting its cars and dumping them on rental fleets hurt Nissan’s brand image and it has been trying to turn that around, which has resulted in sales declines in both 2018 and 2019. Its annual US sales record of nearly 1.5m/year is still very far from the 2.0m+/year recorded by the Japanese #1, Toyota, and seems out of reach until Nissan refreshes its line-up.

Part of Nissan’s success in recent years stems from the proliferation of different models: in 2015 it has 19 different models on sale, compared to 11 for Honda and 15 for Toyota. In addition to covering pretty much every mainstream and SUV segment there is, it also offered oddball cars (Cube), sportscars (370Z and GT-R even though both haven’t been updated in almost a decade) as well as pickups (Frontier and Titan) and commercial vans (NV and NV200). And while it traditionally hasn’t led any individual segments, it has some hits on its hands in the shape of the Altima, Versa, and Rogue, all of which are nipping at the heels of the segment-leaders.

Nissan is Japan’s second largest auto manufacturer and was founded in 1934 by Masujiro Hashimoto. Known for its trend setting aesthetics, it began exporting vehicles in the 1950’s. The Datsun was first vehicle introduced into the North American market in 1959. Exported vehicles were branded under the Datsun brand until 1982. In 1989, a luxury line named Infiniti was established to cater towards the luxury segment without cannibalizing its mainstream brand.

Nissan also has a huge vehicle portfolio. Whether it’s an electric car, sports car, truck, minivan, sedan, hatchback, or SUV you want, you can always get one from Nissan. Nissan cars have a distinct style, so if you’re looking for a car that stands out on the road, this is the brand for you.

Nissan wins awards left and right from the most prestigious auto organizations, such as Kelley Blue Book, the IIHS, NHTSA, and Edmunds.com. You know you can trust a Nissan when it’s recognized by one of those sources. Nissan is also one of the most affordable brands around, promising low base prices that make them available to a wide range of drivers.

Nissan U.S Sales Figures & Recent Highlights

Nissan is one of the best-selling brands in the US. It is one of the perennial top 3 Japanese automakers in the world right after Toyota and Honda. Nissan sales in US for the last 8 years has been hovering above the 1 million mark. The results of their sales comes from the marketing strategy they used by flooding every mainstream and SUV market with different models.

Overall, Nissan’s U.S. sales have been declining in recent years. However, the company has some new products in the pipeline that could help it turn things around. The all-new Nissan Z and the Nissan Ariya are both expected to be popular with consumers. Nissan is also investing heavily in electric vehicles, which is a growing market.

Some of the recent highlights of Nissan include the launch of the all-new 2023 Nissan Z sports car and the introduction of the Nissan Ariya electric SUV. The announcement of Nissan’s plans to invest $1.4 billion in the U.S. to build electric vehicles and batteries and the launch of the Nissan LEAF Plus, which has an EPA-estimated range of 223 miles, all designed to rejuvenate sales.
