Mitsubishi Pajero Pinin
These statistics include sales of the Mitsubishi Pajero Pinin (pictured) only. The Mitsubishi Pajero Pinin, also known as the Mitsubishi Montero iO in some markets, is a compact SUV produced by Mitsubishi Motors. It was introduced in the late 1990s and remained in production until the mid-2000s. The “Pinin” moniker is a nod to the Pininfarina design firm, which collaborated with Mitsubishi on the design and development of the vehicle.
The design of the Pajero Pinin was a collaborative effort between Mitsubishi and the renowned Italian design and coachbuilding firm Pininfarina. Hence, the vehicle carries a unique blend of Italian design flair and Japanese engineering. Smaller than the full-sized Pajero (known as the Montero in some markets and the Shogun in the UK), the Pinin was aimed at consumers looking for a more city-friendly SUV with off-road capabilities.
The Pajero Pinin was offered with a choice of gasoline engines. Initially, there was a 1.8-liter engine, and later on, a 2.0-liter engine was added to the lineup. These engines were typically mated to either a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed automatic transmission. The Pajero Pinin was produced from 1998 to 2007. While it was available in various global markets, its naming conventions differed. For instance, in Latin America, it was sold as the Montero iO. The Pajero Pinin was discontinued in 2007 and wasn’t directly replaced in Mitsubishi’s lineup.
