Mini Convertible

The Mini Convertible, also known as the Mini Cabrio in some markets, is the open-top version of the iconic Mini Hatch. Manufactured by the British automotive marque MINI (owned by the BMW Group since 2000), the Mini Convertible offers a blend of distinctive style, fun-to-drive dynamics, and open-air motoring.

Mini Convertible Overview

The Mini Convertible was first introduced in 2004, several years after the relaunch of the Mini brand under BMW’s ownership. Just like the Mini Hatch, the Convertible has retained the iconic design cues of the original Mini – a compact footprint, round headlights, and a recognizable grille. The soft-top roof can be operated electrically, folding down in just a few seconds. In its halfway position, it can also act as a sunroof.

The Mini Convertible, despite its open-top configuration, is known for its go-kart-like handling, a characteristic trait of Minis. Throughout its iterations, it’s been available with a range of engine options, from fuel-efficient three-cylinders to more powerful four-cylinder units, especially in the sportier Cooper S and John Cooper Works (JCW) models.

The Convertible boasts a premium interior with a mix of retro and modern design cues. The large central display, which used to house the speedometer in earlier models, now serves as the infotainment hub. The car comes equipped with a host of modern amenities, but due to its compact nature, rear-seat space and boot space are limited, especially with the roof down. Similar to the Mini Hatch, the Convertible has been available in various trims and performance levels, including the Cooper, Cooper S, and the high-performance John Cooper Works.

Since its introduction, the Mini Convertible has seen several generations and updates, aligning with the changes and updates of the Mini Hatch. Each generation has brought refinements in terms of design, technology, and performance.
