Lifan Xuanlang
The Xuanlang is Lifan’s second MPV, besides the Lotto. Its design is unmistakenly inspired by the Ford S-Max, if not a blunt copy of that model. The general shape as well as the design of the C-pillar, headlights, character line over the sides and the rear end are all suspiciously similar to Ford’s large MPV in Europe. Fortunately for Ford, the current generation S-Max is not sold in China, so it won’t have to face a direct comparison with a similarly looking but much cheaper domestic model, as is the case for the Porsche Macan (Zotye SR9) and Range Rover Evoque (Landwind X7). The interior design is slightly more original, although we can recognize the vertical air vents next to the center console screen from (again) the Ford S-Max.
If we look at sizes, the Xuanlang measures 4.720/1.840/1.665mm, with a wheelbase of 2.780mm. This is just 76mm shorter, 76mm narrower and 10mm higher than the S-Max, and its wheelbase is 70mm shorter. The Xuanlang is available with three 4-cylinder petrol engine options: a 1,8-liter with 133hp and 178Nm of torque, a 2-liter with 141hp and 185Nm, both mated to a 5MT or CVT, and a much more modern 1,5-liter turbocharged engine with a similar 141hp but more torquey 234Nm coupled to a 5MT or 8AT. Prices range from 69.800 yuan to 106.800 yuan (€ 9.200,-/US$ 10,300 to € 14.000,-/US$ 15,700). For comparison: the S-Max starts at just over € 30.000,- in Germany. Of its main rivals, the Changan Oushang and Baojun 730 are slightly cheaper (by about 10.000 yuan), the Changan Linmax is similarly priced and the Haima M5 is slightly more expensive (by about 10.000 yuan).
