Hyundai China Sales Figures & Recent Highlights
Established in 2002, BHMC is a joint venture between Hyundai Motor Company and Beijing Automotive Industry Group Co., Ltd. (BAIC). This collaboration has been the primary avenue for Hyundai’s passenger vehicle production and sales in China. Over the years, BHMC has launched numerous models tailored to Chinese consumers’ preferences and needs.
Hyundai offers a diverse range of vehicles in China, including sedans, hatchbacks, SUVs, and MPVs. Many of these models are familiar to global audiences, such as the Elantra, Tucson, and Santa Fe. However, some models have been specially designed or adapted for the Chinese market to cater to local tastes and requirements.
Like many foreign automakers in China, Hyundai faces stiff competition from both international and domestic brands. In recent years, geopolitical tensions between China and South Korea affected Hyundai’s sales in China. However, the company has been working on strategies to recover its market position and strengthen its brand appeal.
Recognizing the importance of the Chinese market, Hyundai has invested in research, development, and design centers in China. These initiatives aim to develop products that resonate more closely with Chinese consumers. Hyundai’s commitment to localization extends to manufacturing, with a significant portion of the vehicles sold in China also being produced there, ensuring faster response to market changes. Hyundai is one of the most popular car brands in China. The brand has a strong reputation for quality and reliability, and its cars are backed by a good dealer network. Hyundai is well-positioned to continue to grow in the Chinese market in the coming years.
