Hafei Sales Data, Trends & Analysis for the Chinese Automotive Market
Hafei Auto is a subsidiary of Changan Auto since 2009, which also markets the Changan and Chana (sub-)brands in China and has manufacturing Joint Ventures with Ford, Mazda, PSA Peugeot-Citroën, Suzuki and Jiangling. Early 2015, Changan announced that production of Hafei vehicles would be suspended and the factory in Harbin, North-East China, will be converted to build up to 200,000 Changan-Ford vehicles per year. Hafei China Sales Figures & Recent Highlights
Hafei primarily produced compact cars, MPVs (Multi-Purpose Vehicles), and mini-commercial vehicles. Some of the vehicles, like the Hafei Ruiyi or the Hafei Saibao, became reasonably well-known in certain market segments in China. Hafei collaborated with international partners to enhance its vehicle designs and engineering. For example, the design for some Hafei models came from the Italian design firm Pininfarina, showcasing Hafei’s ambition to elevate its brand and product quality.
Like many domestic automakers in China during the 2000s, Hafei targeted the more budget-conscious segment of the market. Their vehicles were typically more affordable than those from more established international brands. Over time, Hafei faced stiff competition in the market, both from other Chinese brands and from international automakers expanding their footprint in China. Facing operational and competitive pressures, Hafei’s auto assets were eventually acquired by Changan Automobile, one of China’s major automakers, in 2009.
After the acquisition, the Hafei brand was phased out, with Changan focusing on integrating Hafei’s assets, production capabilities, and technology into its operations.
