Fiat Sales Data, Trends, Analysis & Current Lineup for the Canadian Automotive Market
This is your hub for all of the Fiat sales data for the Canadian market. Fabbrica Italiana Automobil Torino (FIAT) is the largest automobile manufacturer in Italy. In the present time, most car enthusiasts certainly know that Fiat is no longer a niche Italian car company because it is now part of the Fiat Chrysler Automobiles or FCA, making it one of the “Big Three” in the US auto manufacturers behind General Motors and Ford.
Its evolution from a classic small car into the modern generations of Fiat models has been revolutionary. Fiat’s logo has become a great status symbol and they were able to keep its style while continuing to keep up with the changes in the automobile market and technology. Their automobiles, in fact, have been awarded as the European Car of the Year nine times.
Fiat’s history in Canada is longer than what most people think. But the production and sales of Fiat in Canada were not always kind. Even though Fiat sales in Canada reached an all-time high during the energy crisis of 1979, falling oil prices began to change consumer preferences to gradually larger vehicles. Add in the entrance of Japanese manufacturers in North America and the demand for SUVs and minivans increasing, FIAT would withdraw from the North American market entirely in 1984.
Fiat Canada Sales Figures & Recent Highlights
After coming back to the North American region just recently, Fiat hasn’t found success yet as they what expected after introducing bringing in their internationally popular car to the region, the Fiat 500.
The peak year for the company in Canada was in 2014 after selling around 200 Fiat-branded vehicles per month on average. Since then, Fiat is struggling to attract customers. Fiat branded-vehicles like the 500L has been considered in the North America overall, as unreliable and unappealing which lures more and more buyers away. Fiat cars are also considered as among the top worst-selling vehicles in Canada for the last couple of years.
Fiat Canada sales have been declining in recent years. In 2020, Fiat Canada sales were 1,700 units. In 2021, Fiat Canada sales fell to 1,300 units. And in 2022, Fiat Canada sales fell further to 1,100 units. Fiat’s product lineup is aging, and the company has not introduced any major new models in recent years. This has led to consumers losing interest in the brand. The SUV market is growing rapidly, while the car market is shrinking. Fiat does not offer any SUVs, which has hurt its sales.
