Alpina Sales Data, Trends & Analysis for the European Automotive Market
Alpina is a small Bavarian automaker which produces its cars based on existing BMW’s, but with a more performance-minded engine and chassis configuration. In contrast to other performance specialists which are recognized as aftermarket tuners, Alpina is recognized as an official manufacturer as the brand only sells complete factory built automobiles and doesn’t modify existing new or used BMW’s with aftermarket kits, tuning chips or other modifications. The brand works closely with BMW and their vehicles are built on the same production lines along with the “regular” BMW models, fitting Alpina’s own hand-built engines. The cars are then delivered to Alpina for finishing touches, for instance the famous Alpina 20-spoke alloy wheels.
Alpina currently builds three engines for 14 different BMW-based models:
- a 3 liter straight-six Bi-Turbo diesel engine with 350 horsepower and 700 NM (516 ft-lb) of torque in the Alpina D3 sedan and Touring station wagon, based on the BMW 3-series, in the Alpina D4, based on BMW’s new 4-series coupe and convertible, in the Alpina XD3 crossover based on the BMW X3 and in the Alpina D5 sedan and Touring station wagon, based on the BMW 5-series.
- a 3 liter straight-six Bi-Turbo petrol engine with 440 horsepower and 660 NM (486 ft-lb) of torque in the Alpina B3S sedan and Touring station wagon, based on the BMW 3-series and in the Alpina B4, based on BMW’s new 4-series coupe and convertible.
- a 4,4 liter V8 Bi-Turbo petrol engine with 600 horsepower and 800 NM (590 ft-lb) of torque in the Alpina B6 Gran Coupe and convertible, based on the BMW 6-series.
- a 4,4 liter V8 Bi-Turbo petrol engine with 608 horsepower and 800 NM (590 ft-lb) of torque in the Alpina B5 sedan and Touring station wagon, based on the BMW 5-series and in the B7 Long Wheel Base, based on the BMW 7-series LWB.
