2018 China Automotive Sales by Automaker – The Best-Selling Automotive Manufacturers By Sales Volume
The Chinese auto market in 2018 was again the largest in the world, with over 28 million new cars sold. However, the market slowed down significantly in the second half of the year due to a number of factors, including a trade war with the United States, rising interest rates, and tighter emission regulations. The best-selling automotive manufacturers in China for 2018 were Volkswagen Group, General Motors, SAIC Motor, Hyundai Motor Group, Toyota Motor Corporation, Dongfeng Motor Group, BAIC Group, Changan Automobile Group, BYD Auto and Geely Automobile Group. These ten manufacturers accounted for over 60% of all new car sales in China in 2018.
Volkswagen Group remained the best-selling automotive manufacturer in China in 2018, but its sales declined by over 10% from the previous year. General Motors also saw its sales decline, but at a slower pace than Volkswagen Group. SAIC Motor was the only one of the top three manufacturers to see its sales increase in 2018, thanks to strong sales of its Baojun brand.
