2018 Best Selling Passenger Cars In Europe (All Models Ranked)
In 2018, the European car market witnessed a mix of growth, challenges, and significant shifts in consumer preferences. After years of growth following the recession, 2018 brought volatility to the European car market. Several months witnessed dips in registrations, and by year’s end, overall sales were relatively flat compared to 2017.
A significant factor in the sales fluctuations was the introduction of the Worldwide Harmonised Light Vehicle Test Procedure (WLTP) in September. This new, more stringent emissions testing standard led to delivery delays and a backlog, as some models were yet to receive certification. The main markets showed mixed results. Germany and France saw slight growth, Spain experienced volatility but maintained numbers similar to the previous year, Italy witnessed a decline, and the UK market contracted further, partially due to Brexit uncertainties.
