Despite gloomy forecasts and failing to surpass the previous year’s total for the first time since the financial crisis, US auto sales still managed to make it three years in a row with sales totalling over 17 million vehicles, the first time this has ever happened. A record average deal price in December also helped ease the blow of slight negative sales growth. For the year, sales overall dipped 2.2% (with only Volvo still to report at the time of writing) after December’s sales fell 5.5% overall on those in the 12th month of 2017.
