Roewe Sales Data, Trends & Analysis for the Chinese Automotive Market

Roewe is a brand of SAIC (Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation), which bought the technology from MG Rover when this British company went bankrupt in 2005. However, they didn’t get the rights for the Rover brand, so decided to call the brand Roewe, which sounds similar. SAIC also produces and markets cars under the Maxus and MG brands and has manufacturing Joint Ventures with General Motors, Iveco and Volkswagen to produce cars under the Baojun, Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, Wuling, Iveco, Skoda and Volkswagen brands.

Roewe China Sales Figures & Recent Highlights

Roewe’s inception is closely linked to the acquisition of certain assets from the British carmaker MG Rover after it collapsed in 2005. SAIC purchased technology and designs from MG Rover, which then laid the foundation for the creation of the Roewe brand. The name “Roewe” is derived from the word “lion” and was chosen to resemble “Rover”, as the name “Rover” could not be used due to trademark issues.

Roewe has a diversified range of vehicles, from compact cars to sedans and SUVs. Over time, it has developed a reputation for building quality cars that often incorporate advanced technology. The brand has also been active in the electric and hybrid vehicle segment, launching models like the Roewe Ei5 and the plug-in hybrid Roewe ei6.

Roewe has successfully positioned itself as a domestic brand with international quality standards. Its cars are perceived as reliable and modern, often rivalling international brands in terms of features and build quality. While Roewe primarily serves the domestic Chinese market, there have been indications and moves to explore international markets, especially under the MG brand. The quality and technological advancements of Roewe cars could make them competitive on the global stage.
