China auto sales statistics for Jaguar only include the models that are locally produced in China through the Chery-Jaguar Land Rover Joint Venture with local manufacturing partner Chery Auto, and excludes import models. Production of the Jaguar XFL started in September 2016 in the factory in Changsu, Jiangsu province, which features China’s first purpose-built aluminium body shop. Jaguar China Sales Figures & Recent Highlights
Jaguar, alongside its sibling brand Land Rover, has been pushing to establish a foothold in China for years, since 2004 in fact. The rapidly growing Chinese middle and upper class presented a significant opportunity for luxury brands like Jaguar.
In 2012, Jaguar Land Rover and the Chinese automaker Chery Automobile formed a joint venture called Chery Jaguar Land Rover. This JV was a significant move to strengthen Jaguar’s presence in China. As part of the JV, a manufacturing plant was set up in Changshu, Jiangsu Province. This allowed for local production of specific Jaguar models tailored for the Chinese market, which helped in avoiding high import tariffs and made their pricing more competitive.
Jaguar offers a range of sedans, SUVs, and sports cars in China. Given the Chinese consumers’ preference for larger cars with ample rear-seat space, Jaguar introduced extended wheelbase versions of some of its sedan models specifically for this market. This investment will be used to develop new products and expand its dealer network. Jaguar Land Rover is also working to improve its brand awareness in China.
