Fiat Sales Data, Trends & Analysis for the China Automotive Market
China auto sales statistics for Fiat only include the models that are locally produced in China through the GAC-Fiat Joint Venture with local manufacturing partner Guangzhou Auto Group Co., and excludes import models. Pre-2008 models were produced by the Nanjing-Fiat Joint Venture, which ended when Nanjing Auto merged with SAIC, who had no interest in the Fiat JV.
Fiat China Sales Figures & Recent Highlights
Fiat entered the Chinese market in 1999 through a joint venture with Nanjing Automobile Group Corporation. The joint venture was called Nanjing Fiat Automobile Co., Ltd. Fiat’s presence in the Chinese market was limited, and its sales were modest. In 2006, Fiat terminated its joint venture with Nanjing Automobile Group Corporation. In 2010, Fiat formed a new joint venture with GAC Group. The joint venture is called GAC Fiat Automobiles Co., Ltd.
Fiat’s sales in China have remained low in recent years. In 2022, Fiat sold only 2,000 cars in China. Fiat’s most popular model in China is the Fiat Viaggio, a compact sedan. Fiat’s cars are known for their stylish design, fuel efficiency, and affordable pricing. However, Fiat cars are not as well-known or tested as those of some of the other automakers in China. As a result, some consumers may be hesitant to purchase a Fiat car. Overall, Fiat is a struggling brand in the Chinese automotive market.
