The P7 is the second car from the Xpeng brand which makes internet connected EVs. The P7 is powered by electric motors at the front and rear of the car, the front motor puts out 161hp and 265Nm / 195 lb.ft of torque while the rear motor has 263hp and 390Nm / 288 lb.ft of torque. The maximum system power produced by the two motors together is 424hp and system torque is 655Nm / 483 lb.ft. The Xpeng P7 offers some of the best in class specs like more than 600 km or 373 miles of range and it has a 5-star C-NCAP rating. It’s capable of Level 3 autonomous driving and comes equipped with all the necessary hardware. The interior takes a page out of the Tesla Model 3 playbook with a huge horizontal touchscreen. Not surprising, as the P7 seems to have only one single goal: challenging the Tesla Model 3.
Dimensions are 4.880/1.896/1.450mm with a wheelbase of 2.998mm. The curb weight of the P7 AWD is 1.890kg / 4,167 lbs. The top speed is 170 km/h / 106 mph, and it accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.3 seconds.
Prices range from 229.900 yuan (€ 28.900,- / US$32,500) to 349.000 yuan (€ 43.900,- / US$49,300) which is about 20% lower than the Tesla Model 3 (291.800-419.800 yuan) but comparing the maximum range models the difference is much smaller: 706km and 249.900 yuan for the P7 vs. 668km and 366.550 yuan for the Tesla Model 3. The BYD Han is the biggest domesic rival to the P7 and is priced from 229.800 yuan to 279.500 yuan. The upcoming Volkswagen ID.3 is expected to start from around 230.000 yuan as well, and offers just 330km of range. The P7’s pricing also undercuts internal combustion models like the Audi A4L (305.800-396.800), BMW 3-Series L (293.900-409.900 yuan) and Mercedes-Benz C-Class L (307.800-474.800).
