Skoda Kamiq
The Kamiq was launched together with its sibling VW T-Roc in China. It is positioned below the Karoq and is powered by a very old 1,5-liter petrol engine with 110hp/150Nm, mated to a 5-speed manual or 6-speed automatic gearbox, while the T-Roc gets a much more modern 1,4-liter turbocharged engine with 150hp. The Chinese Kamiq is very different than the European Kamiq, as the latter is based on VW Group’s modern MQB platform, while the Kamiq for China is based on the PQ34 platform of the VW Golf IV (1997-2003). Dimensions are 4.390/1.781/1.593mm with a 2.610mm wheelbase.
Skoda Kamiq Overview
The Å koda Kamiq is a subcompact crossover SUV produced by the Czech automaker Å koda Auto. It’s the smallest SUV in Å koda’s lineup, sitting below the Karoq and the Kodiaq. Introduced in 2019, the Kamiq is Å koda’s entrant into the burgeoning small SUV market. The Kamiq complements Å koda’s SUV range by being the entry-level option, catering to customers looking for a compact, city-friendly SUV.
The Kamiq incorporates Å koda’s modern design language with a prominent grille, split LED headlamps, and a robust stance typical of SUVs. Despite its smaller size, design elements give it a presence on par with its larger siblings. Inside, the Kamiq boasts a contemporary design with a focus on space and practicality – trademarks of the Å koda brand. The car offers a good amount of passenger and luggage space for its segment. Modern infotainment options, including large touchscreen displays and connectivity features, are available. The interior quality and materials are commendable, providing a premium feel in certain trims.
The Kamiq is available with a variety of petrol and diesel engines, including a 1.0-liter three-cylinder engine, a 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine, and a 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine. It is available with either a five-speed manual transmission or a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. The Kamiq is known for its stylish design, comfortable ride, and good handling. It also offers a good amount of cargo space.
Skoda Kamiq Sales Figures
The Å koda Kamiq has been generally well-received in markets where it’s offered. Its mix of style, practicality, and value resonates well with customers. Its position in the highly competitive small SUV segment means it faces stiff competition, but its unique selling points, like interior space and build quality, allow it to stand out. The Kamiq competes with other subcompact SUVs like the Volkswagen T-Cross (which it shares a platform with due to the VW Group connection), Renault Captur, Peugeot 2008, and Ford Puma, among others.
