Nissan Wagon Sales Figures

Nissan Wagon

The Nissan Wagon was a passenger version of the second generation Vanette small cargo van and passenger van, primarily sold in Asia. Nissan briefly imported a small number of Wagons to the United States from 1987 to 1989.

Around the same time, Mitsubishi launched its Mitsubishi Wagon and Van, both hoped to emulate the relative success of the Toyota Van, but never came close to those sales figures and were pulled from the market after just a few years.

Nissan had to re-engineer the Wagon for the US market with a larger, 2.4-liter engine, but this was prone to overheating as the car wasn’t designed to fit such a large engine in the small compartment. Four safety recalls couldn’t fix the problem, so in 1994 Nissan recalled every Wagon sold in the United States, offering owners a fair market value for their car and discounts on a new Nissan vehicle, which was accepted by most, whose cars were subsequently crushed. Some owners decided to keep their cars.
