Nissan Terrano
The Nissan Terrano is an SUV produced by the Japanese automaker Nissan. Over the years, the Terrano has seen different incarnations and has been sold in various markets around the world. The Nissan Terrano II was withdrawn from the market in 2007 without a direct successor.
Nissan Terrano Overview
The Nissan Terrano was introduced in the early 1990s as a compact SUV. In some markets, it was known as the Nissan Mistral or the Nissan Pathfinder, with the latter name being more recognized in markets like North America. Originally introduced as a two-door SUV, it was later made available in a four-door variant. It was positioned as a more affordable alternative to Toyota’s 4Runner. The Terrano II, as it was often called, was designed primarily for the European and other international markets. Built on a more rugged platform, it was distinct from the US-market Pathfinder.
In 2013, Nissan India introduced an SUV named Terrano, which was essentially a rebadged version of the Renault Duster, following the global alliance between Nissan and Renault. This iteration was distinct from the original Terrano models and was a compact SUV aimed at the rapidly growing SUV market in India. Over the years, the Terrano was offered with a variety of petrol and diesel engines. Depending on the market, buyers could choose from four-cylinder, V6, and even turbodiesel options.
While the original Terrano models saw their production end in the early 2000s, the India-specific Terrano continued into the late 2010s. However, with the rise of newer models and increased competition, its prominence in Nissan’s lineup decreased.
