Borgward BX7 Sales Data & Trends
Borgward is a German brand that ceased operations in the 1960’s but has been brought back to life by China’s Beiqi Foton Motor, a subsidiary of BAIC. The revived brand has started sales in China in 2016 and European sales started in 2018 with the BX7 and slightly smaller BX5. The BX7 is built on the platform of the BAIC Senova X65, also used for the BAIC Beijing Huansu S6.
Upon introduction, the BX7 is available with a 2-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine with 224hp, built by Foton with Mitsubishi technology. A 3-liter turbocharged V6 is expected to follow later, including a plug-in hybrid version of that same engine, which promises a combined output of 400hp and an EV range of 55 km. The latter will be the most interesting engine for the model in Europe, as the 2-liter with its CO2 emissions of 233g/km and energy label F is too inefficient to be sold in most European countries, especially those which base their taxation on a vehicle’s CO2 emissions.
