In light of Porsche’s attempts to see if the Nissan GT-R really can lap the Nurburgring in under 7 minutes and 30 seconds and discovering that they (Porsche) could barely crack 8 minutes and thus accused Nissan of…. cheating, Nissan responded with one of the best ever automaker-to-automaker quotes. This is much better stuff than Obama surrogates retaliating against McCain surrogates. (Watch the 7:29 lap by clicking here.)
“We offer performance driving courses for prospective and current GT-R owners to help them get the best performance from their car. We would welcome the opportunity to help any auto manufacturer with understanding the full capabilities of the GT-R.”
At first glance, some auto pundits felt that Nissan should just ignore Porsche’s whining. Everybody knows the GT-R punches above its weight class, that its bite is even more vicious than its bite, and to lend credence to Porsche’s complaints would diminish the GT-R’s gravitas. Fear not. Nissan came up with a great press release and a terrific quote which, in the end, made Porsche look like crying babies.
