Ford Ranger Sales Figures

Ford Ranger

Here you will find monthly and yearly Canadian, Chinese, European and U.S. sales figures for the Ford Ranger. Statistics before 2013 only include sales of the Ford Ranger pick-up truck that are registered as passenger cars. Most of these kinds of cars are sold as commercial versions, but those sales are not included in these data. Sales figures from 2013 and later are total Ranger sales including commercial versions.

Ford Ranger Overview

The Ford Ranger is a line of pickup trucks produced by Ford Motor Company. Designed primarily for the North American market, the Ranger name has been used on multiple models worldwide. The Ranger name was first introduced in 1958 as a styling package for the Ford Edsel. It later became a trim level on the F-Series pickup trucks. In 1983, Ford introduced the Ranger as a standalone compact pickup model to replace the Ford Courier.

The first-generation Ranger was designed for North America to compete with Japanese compact pickups that were gaining popularity. The trucks offered a variety of engine options, from inline-four to V6 variants. The Ranger received a significant redesign for its second generation in 1993, including updated styling, more engine options, and improved safety features. This generation marked the introduction of the Ranger’s twin, the Mazda B-Series in North America.

Another substantial redesign for the third generation in 1998 saw the Ranger getting larger, with improvements in safety, comfort, and refinement. However, declining sales in the compact pickup segment in North America led Ford to announce the end of Ranger production for the U.S. and Canada after the 2011 model year. Concurrent with the North American Ranger, Ford also offered an entirely different “Ranger” model designed and engineered in Australia for nearly 180 global markets. This international variant, particularly its latest iterations, is larger than the compact U.S. models and is more aligned with the mid-sized pickup category.

After seeing a resurgence in the mid-size pickup market in North America, driven by models like the Toyota Tacoma and Chevrolet Colorado, Ford reintroduced the Ranger for the 2019 model year. This new Ranger is based on the international model and underwent modifications for the North American market. It offers a 2.3L EcoBoost four-cylinder engine paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission.

Ford Ranger Sales Figures

The return of the Ranger was generally well-received. Reviewers have praised its towing capacity, modern tech features, and overall performance. The Ranger holds importance in Ford’s lineup as a versatile mid-size pickup offering, bridging the gap between the larger F-Series trucks and the consumer market that requires a smaller, more maneuverable pickup for everyday use.

Ford Ranger China Sales Data & Charts

The Ranger is imported into China from Thailand. Chinese sales of the Raptor started in July 2018. Until that time, there were some grey-market imports of Ranger, but of course there are no official statistics of those. There is a locally-produced SUV based on the Ranger that is sold in China under the name Ford Everest. Car sales statistics from China on this site usually only include domestic production and exclude imported models. However, for a very limited number of brands and models we publish the sales figures of imported cars, if available.
