Mercedes-Benz E-Class Overview

The Mercedes-Benz E-Class is one of the core models in the Mercedes-Benz lineup and has been in production for many decades. It’s a representation of the executive car segment and is known for its luxurious features, advanced technology, and comfortable ride.

While the “E-Class” moniker was officially adopted in 1993, its lineage can be traced back to Mercedes-Benz sedans from as early as the 1950s. Vehicles like the “Ponton” models, the W114/W115 “Stroke-8” series, and the W123 can be considered predecessors. The name “E” originally stood for “Einspritzmotor,” German for “fuel injection engine”, which was a new feature in the lineup in the 1950s. Over time, the name “E-Class” became synonymous with the executive mid-sized segment of Mercedes-Benz.

The E-Class has been offered in various body styles over the years, including sedans, coupes, convertibles (or cabriolets), and wagons (or estates). Additionally, the E-Class has been available in high-performance AMG variants, which provide sportier styling and significantly increased performance.

The current generation E-Class was introduced in 2021 and is available as a sedan, coupe, convertible, and wagon. It is powered by a variety of engines, including a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder, a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six, and a twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8. The E-Class is loaded with features, including a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a Burmester sound system, and a variety of driver assistance features. The starting MSRP for the 2023 Mercedes-Benz E-Class is $56,750.

Mercedes-Benz E-Class Sales Figures

The E-Class has always been well-received in its market segment, praised for its comfort, luxury, safety features, and overall refinement. It competes with other executive sedans like the BMW 5 Series, Audi A6, and Lexus GS, among others. In summary, the Mercedes-Benz E-Class represents a blend of luxury, technology, and performance, making it a benchmark in the executive car segment. Its long-standing reputation for quality and innovation has cemented its position as one of the top choices for buyers in this category.

Canadian E-Class sales include sales of the CLS-Class – 2004’s Canadian E-Class sales refer exclusively to the E-Class. 62 of the E-Class’s 2005 Canadian total were CLS-Class sedan-coupes. E-Class/CLS sales are intermittently combined by Mercedes-Benz USA, but we sometimes receive a breakdown. These statistics include sales of the Mercedes-Benz E-Class sedan and station wagon, and from 2009 onwards also of the E-Class coupe and convertible versions.
