Mercury Cougar
The Mercury Cougar is an automobile that was marketed by the Mercury division of Ford from 1967 to 2002. Throughout its life, the Cougar saw numerous changes in terms of its size, body style, and market positioning, but it is often best remembered for its early years when it was positioned as a luxury pony car.
The eighth generation (which we show sales for below was produced from 1999 to 2002. It was a major departure from the previous generation. Transitioned to a front-wheel-drive platform, based on the Ford Contour/Mercury Mystique. Aimed at a younger market with a sportier design and was offered as a coupe with V6 and V8 engine options. The 2002 model year was the last for the Cougar, marking the end of the nameplate’s production.
