Best of the 2024 Mercedes Benz Lineup

Will The Three-pointed Star Score Big Wins in 2024?

Front-angled view of the 2024 Mercedes Benz E450 4MATIC Sedan.

2023 was a decent year for Mercedes Benz Cars. The Stuttgart-based automaker reported an annual sale of 2,043,800 units. It was a modest increase of less than 1% over 2022 sales figures.

However, the company executives were no doubt pleased to learn that its aggressive EV strategy appears to be right on track. In 2023, the carmaker sold over 222,000 all-electric vehicles (plus an additional 18,000 smart cars), accounting for about 11% of the brand’s total volume and a year-over-year growth rate of 73%.

EVs will continue to play a pivotal role for Mercedes Benz for the 2024 MY, with as many as 19 all-electric vehicles lining alongside the brand’s ICE vehicles.

Also, some of the existing models, such as the E-Class, have been completely redesigned, while all-new nameplates, like the CLE coupe, are expected in the spring of 2024.

Specifications

  • MSRP: starts at $229,000 USD /  $308,566 CAD
  • Engine: 6.0L twin-turbocharged V12
  • Power / Torque: 621 hp / 664 lb-ft
  • Transmission: AWD
  • 0-60 mph: 4.4 seconds

  • Basic Warranty: 4 years /  50,000 miles (80,000 km)

Our Take

No list of the best Mercedes models is ever complete without including the flagship Mercedes-Maybach S-Class at the top of the pile. It is, after all, one of the most luxurious sedans on the market today. The proud flagship unapologetically retains its V12 powertrain for the 2024 MY. There is also a Night Series appearance package that adds extra touches like darkened chrome exterior accents and rose-gold details in the headlamps.

2024 Mercedes-AMG SL 63

Specifications

  • MSRP: starts at $183,000 USD /  $246,583 CAD
  • Engine: 4.0L twin-turbocharged V8
  • Power / Torque: 577 hp / 590 lb-ft
  • Transmission: AWD
  • 0-60 mph: 3.0 seconds
  • Fuel Economy: 14 MPG (city) | 16.8 L/100 km /  22 MPG | 10.7 L/100 km (highway)
  • Basic Warranty: 4 years /  50,000 miles (80,000 km)

Our Take

The German carmaker completely overhauled the design of the SL roadster for the 2022 MY, adopting a sleeker, more eye-catching profile. It remains largely unchanged for 2024. Buyers can expect the brand’s trademark high-quality finishing and tech loadout. The SL 63 excels with its ability to combine a luxurious, refined experience with punchy performance from the hand-crafted AMG power plant.

Specifications

  • MSRP: starts at $170,350 USD /  $229,538 CAD
  • Engine: 4.0L Biturbo V8
  • Power / Torque: 630 hp / 664 lb-ft
  • Transmission: AWD
  • 0-60 mph: 2.6 seconds

  • Basic Warranty: 4 years /  50,000 miles (80,000 km)

Our Take

There is nothing subtle about this sports sedan. Everything, from its outrageous sticker price to its supercar levels of performance, has been dialled up to the extreme. The GT 63 S shines with its elegant styling and scorching performance. The fastback roofline means rear headroom is limited, but the 4-door styling and decent boot space mean it is practical for everyday use.

Specifications

  • MSRP: starts at $179,000 USD /  $241,193 CAD

  • Basic Warranty: 4 years /  50,000 miles (80,000 km)

Our Take

The imposing G-Class is undoubtedly one of the most iconic vehicles ever made. It’s been around for over four decades now and still maintains a strong market presence despite the fact that its general design remains virtually unchanged. The modern iteration of the G-Class powers on, riding high on its unquestionable off-road attributes, lavish interior, formidable powertrain and, of course, an enduring legacy.

Specifications

  • MSRP: starts at $48,950 USD /  $65,958 CAD
  • Engine: 2.0L turbocharged inline-4
  • Power / Torque: 255 hp / 295 lb-ft

  • Basic Warranty: 4 years /  50,000 miles (80,000 km)

Our Take

The Mercedes Benz brand is synonymous with premium build quality balanced with impressive on-road performance. It’s a reputation upheld by the C-Class. The solid mid-size sedan offers a similar experience to the top-end S-Class models, albeit in a smaller and more affordable package. A few useful features, like the parking sensors and wireless charging pad, are now available as standard equipment for the 2024 MY.

Specifications

  • MSRP: starts at $107,400 USD /  $144,716 CAD
  • Engine: Permanent-magnet synchronous AC motor (front & mid)
  • Power / Torque: 516 hp /  631 lb-ft (Combined)
  • Transmission: AWD
  • 0-60 mph: 5.4 seconds
  • Fuel Economy: 73 MPGe (City) | 2.8 L/100 km /  74 MPGe | 2.7 L/100 km (Highway)
  • Range: 345 miles /  555 km
  • Basic Warranty: 4 years /  50,000 miles (80,000 km)

Our Take

The EQS is the first Mercedes EV built on a dedicated technical platform. The German carmaker pulled out all stops to ensure the EQS would become a statement piece in a rapidly growing segment. Take the MBUX Hyperscreen for instance, easily one of the largest infotainment screens on a production vehicle. It blends well with a high-tech futuristic interior space. The EQS450 also impresses with a driving range at par, if not better, than a lot of its rivals.

Specifications

  • MSRP: starts at $122,550 USD /  $165,130 CAD
  • Engine: 3.0L turbocharged inline-6 + electric motor
  • Power / Torque: 510 hp /  553 lb-ft (Combined)
  • Transmission: AWD
  • 0-60 mph: 4.2 seconds
  • Fuel Economy: 49 MPGe | 4.8 L/100 km (Combined City/Highway)
  • Range: 46 miles /  74 km (on electric power)
  • Basic Warranty: 4 years /  50,000 miles (80,000 km)

Our Take

First introduced for the 2023 MY, the S 580e is just as luxuriously appointed as the standard model. The main difference is in the powertrain. Instead of a V12, the S 580e gets a turbocharged inline-6 engine paired with an electric motor. It is not as powerful as its V12 sibling, but its solid EPA estimates and impressive all-electric drive range are strong arguments in its favour.

Specifications

  • MSRP: starts at $65,550 USD /  $88,325 CAD
  • Engine: 3.0L turbocharged inline-6
  • Power / Torque: 375 hp / 369 lb-ft
  • Transmission: AWD
  • 0-60 mph: 4.3 seconds
  • Fuel Economy: 23 MPG (city) | 10.2 L/100 km /  31 MPG | 7.6 L/100 km(highway)
  • Basic Warranty: 4 years /  50,000 miles (80,000 km)

Our Take

2024 is a big year for the E-Class sedan. It marks the beginning of an all-new generation that features big design changes and more technology than ever before. The entry-level model is the E 350, but the E 450 4MATIC is the sweet spot of the lineup, with its battery-assisted inline-6 engine (instead of the E 350’s 4-cylinder setup). There are also several optional extras like the MBUX Superscreen and air suspension that help elevate the overall driving experience.

Specifications

  • MSRP: starts at $71,250 USD /  $96,005 CAD
  • Engine: 3.0L turbocharged inline-6
  • Power / Torque: 375 hp / 369 lb-ft
  • Transmission: AWD
  • 0-60 mph: 4.6 seconds
  • Fuel Economy: 21 MPG (city) | 11.2 L/100 km /  28 MPG | 8.4 L/100 km(highway)
  • Basic Warranty: 4 years /  50,000 miles (80,000 km)

Our Take

The E 450 4MATIC All-Terrain is currently the only Mercedes wagon offering for the North American market. It’s targeted at those who are considering options other than the traditional SUV to haul family and cargo. The E 450 4MATIC All-Terrain isn’t strictly an offroad vehicle, but it is still plenty capable with its adjustable Airmatic suspension and ingenious 4MATIC all-wheel-drive system.

Specifications

  • MSRP: starts at $85,900 USD /  $115,745 CAD
  • Engine: Permanent-magnet synchronous AC motor (front & mid)
  • Power / Torque: 516 hp /  631 lb-ft (Combined)
  • Transmission: AWD
  • 0-60 mph: 4.7 seconds
  • Fuel Economy: 83 MPGe (City) | 2.8 L/100 km /  82 MPGe | 2.9 L/100 km (Highway)
  • Range: 269 miles /  433 km
  • Basic Warranty: 4 years /  50,000 miles (80,000 km)

Our Take

The EQE is available in both sedan and crossover body styles though the sedan is arguably more elegantly looking. The EQE 500 boasts a dual-motor setup, all-wheel-drive and a silky smooth ride. The lack of a front trunk means less cargo space, but it also means there are fewer panel gaps in the body, contributing to a heightened sensation of quiet in the plush interior – not quite Rolls-Royce-style, but close.
