2022 Best Selling Pickup Trucks In the United States (All Models Ranked)
Pickup truck sales in the U.S. in 2022 were down slightly from 2021, but they still remained strong. The Ford F-Series was the best-selling pickup truck in the U.S. in 2022, with over 653,000 units sold. The F-Series has been the best-selling pickup truck in the U.S. for over 40 years. Other popular pickup trucks in 2022 included the Chevrolet Silverado, Ram Pickup, GMC Sierra, and Toyota Tacoma.
The Silverado was basically flat versus 2021, with 520,936 units sold in 2022. The Ram Pickup saw a big decline of almost 18%, down to 468,344 units sold in 2022. The GMC Sierra was flat at 241,521 units. The Toyota Tacoma saw a double digit decline while its sibling the Toyota Tundra saw a big increase from 82k units sold in 2021 to 104k units sold in 2022.
The decline in pickup truck sales in 2022 can be attributed to a number of factors, including the global semiconductor shortage, rising inflation, and increasing interest rates. The global semiconductor shortage made it difficult for automakers to produce enough pickup trucks to meet demand, while rising inflation and increasing interest rates made pickup trucks more expensive for consumers to purchase.
Despite the decline in sales in 2022, the pickup truck market is expected to remain strong in the coming years. Pickup trucks are popular with consumers due to their versatility, durability, and towing capacity. Pickup trucks are also seen as being safer than other types of vehicles, such as sedans and coupes.
The Nissan Titan, Ford Ranger, Ram Pickup, Toyota Tacoma and Jeep Gladiator all saw double digit declines, the worst performers in terms of percentage declines. The biggest growth models were the Ford Maverick, Hyundai Santa Cruz, Toyota Tundra and Nissan Frontier.
