Australia / Oceania Passenger Car Sales for 2022
The automotive industry in Australia experienced a recovery in car sales after the challenges faced in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In the first half of 2022, car sales showed strong growth for the second year in a row. This recovery was largely attributed to improving economic conditions, the easing of COVID-19 restrictions, and increased consumer confidence. Car sales in other countries of Oceania, such as New Zealand and the Pacific island nations, also saw a recovery in 2021 after the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. Like Australia, these countries experienced improving economic conditions and increasing consumer confidence, contributing to the rebound in car sales.
The indicator estimates the number of new passenger car registrations and sales that took place within a country in a year. Passenger cars are road motor vehicles, other than a motor cycle, intended for the carriage of passengers and designed to seat no more than nine persons (including the driver).
