Australia / Oceania Passenger Car Sales for 2021
The automotive industry in Australia experienced a recovery in car sales after the challenges faced in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In the first half of 2021, car sales showed strong growth compared to the same period in 2020. This recovery was largely attributed to improving economic conditions, easing of COVID-19 restrictions, and increased consumer confidence. Like Australia, these countries experienced improving economic conditions and increasing consumer confidence, contributing to the rebound in car sales.
The indicator estimates the number of new passenger car registrations and sales that took place within a country in a year. Passenger cars are road motor vehicles, other than a motor cycle, intended for the carriage of passengers and designed to seat no more than nine persons (including the driver).
