2019 Best Selling SUVs In Europe (All Models Ranked)

In 2019, the European SUV segment’s prominence showed no signs of waning. With the rise of various macroeconomic and environmental factors, there were several key trends and shifts within the market. SUVs held their position as the most popular vehicle segment in Europe. The demand persisted across both Western and Eastern Europe, further fueling the diversification of SUV offerings.

The Nissan Qashqai continued to be a significant player in the compact SUV market, maintaining its appeal with a mix of design, efficiency, and affordability. Consistently a top performer, the Volkswagen Tiguan remained one of Europe’s most purchased SUVs, showcasing Volkswagen’s understanding of the segment’s demands. The Renault Captur sustained its impressive sales trajectory in the subcompact SUV segment, with the introduction of the second generation towards the end of the year further stimulating interest. Riding on the successes of previous years, the Peugeot 3008 was still a crowd favorite, with its unique styling and a rich feature set distinguishing it in the market. As a value-oriented offering, the Dacia Duster found substantial success in various European markets, highlighting the demand for budget-friendly SUV options.

With increasing awareness of environmental concerns and tighter emission regulations, there was a substantial push towards eco-friendly SUV options. This was not only evident in the rise of hybrid and plug-in hybrid SUVs but also in the introduction of more all-electric SUVs. For instance, the Tesla Model 3, while not a traditional SUV, saw significant sales, and the Tesla Model Y was keenly anticipated. While there was a wide range of SUVs available in the market, compact and subcompact SUVs like the Ford Puma, Toyota C-HR, and Skoda Kamiq witnessed remarkable demand, emphasizing the European preference for smaller, more urban-friendly SUVs.
