Overall, 2019 presented a challenging year for car sales in Australia and Oceania. Passenger cars fared slightly worse, with a decline of 8.52% to 799k units. SUVs continued to be the popular choice among buyers. Toyota remained the top-selling brand in Australia, followed by Mazda and Hyundai. The Toyota Hilux, Ford Ranger, and Toyota Corolla were among the popular models.

In New Zealand, car sales experienced a modest decline in 2019. Total new vehicle registrations reached 154,224, marking a decrease of approximately 4.3% compared to the previous year. The decline was influenced by factors such as economic uncertainty and tighter lending conditions. Toyota remained the top-selling brand, followed by Ford and Mitsubishi. The Ford Ranger and Toyota Corolla were among the popular models. Passenger cars declined too, down 3.77% versus prior year.
