Africa Passenger Car Sales for 2019
In 2019, the African automotive market exhibited a mix of positive and challenging trends in car sales across different countries. South Africa remained the largest car market in Africa in 2019. The country’s automotive industry faced some challenges, including slow economic growth and political uncertainty. That same situation is true for the rest of the top ten African car markets, which all saw declining new car sales. Libya and the Ivory Coast were bright spots but that is more about easy year on year comps.
The indicator estimates the number of new passenger car registrations and sales that took place within a country in a year. Passenger cars are road motor vehicles, other than a motor cycle, intended for the carriage of passengers and designed to seat no more than nine persons (including the driver).
