Australia / Oceania Passenger Car Sales for 2014
Car sales in Australia in 2014 showed a decline compared to the previous year. A total of 1,113,224 new vehicles were sold, marking a decrease of approximately 1.0% compared to 2013. Passenger cars as a segment fell much more, down 6.15% year on year to 532k units. The decline in sales was primarily attributed to factors such as a decline in manufacturing, the end of government stimulus measures, and economic uncertainty.
In New Zealand, car sales experienced a strong increase in 2014. Total new vehicle registrations reached 126,920, marking a growth of approximately 11.5% compared to the previous year. Passenger cars grew a little slower at 9.34%, breaking the 90k units mark. The increase was attributed to improved economic conditions, increased tourism, and consumer confidence. Toyota remained the top-selling brand, followed by Ford and Holden. The Toyota Hilux and Toyota Corolla were among the top-selling models.
