The Maxima’s roots trace back to the late 1970s when it was introduced as an upscale version of the Datsun 810. The Maxima name first appeared as a trim level before it became the name of the model itself.

Originally marketed as the Datsun 810 Maxima, it eventually transitioned to the Nissan brand. These early versions were rear-wheel-drive configurations. By 1988 we got the third generation Maxima and this was when the Maxima shifted to a front-wheel-drive platform. It also adopted Nissan’s then-new 3.0L V6 VG engine, contributing to its reputation as a “4-Door Sports Car” or “4DSC,” a moniker Nissan used in marketing. In 1995 the fourth generation arrived, this iteration of the Maxima continued to emphasize performance and luxury. It retained the 3.0L V6 engine, which was known for its robust output and reliability. Since 2000, the Maxima grew in size, performance, and features. It embraced a more distinct design, with the latest iterations boasting a bold front fascia, V-motion grille, and a floating roof design. The interior also saw enhancements with more upscale materials and advanced infotainment options.

The Maxima is available in four trim levels: the SV, the SL, the SR, and the Platinum. The SL is the mid-level trim level and comes standard with a variety of features, such as a Bose sound system, a heated steering wheel, and a power-adjustable driver’s seat. The Platinum is the top-of-the-line trim level and comes standard with a variety of features, such as a 10.8-inch head-up display, a heated steering wheel, and a panoramic sunroof.
