First Generation (W116; 1972–1980)

It was powered by a variety of engines, including a 6.3-liter V8 engine and a 6.9-liter V8 engine. It also introduced key safety features such as ABS (Anti-lock Braking System).

Second Generation (W126; 1979–1992)

The second generation of the S-Class was introduced in 1979 and was even more luxurious than the first generation. It was also more fuel-efficient, thanks to its new aerodynamic design. The W126 was powered by a variety of engines, including a 3.0-liter V6 engine, a 4.2-liter V8 engine, and a 5.0-liter V8 engine. The W220 was also the first S-Class to be available with a semi-autonomous driving system called Distronic. It was lighter and more efficient than its predecessor and introduced features like AIRMATIC air suspension and adaptive cruise control (Distronic).

Fifth Generation (W221; 2005–2013)

The fifth generation of the S-Class was introduced in 2005 and was even more luxurious and technologically advanced than the previous generations. It was the first S-Class to be available with a panoramic sunroof and a night vision system. The W221 was also the first S-Class to be available with a hybrid powertrain. Sixth Generation (W222; 2013–2020)

The sixth generation of the S-Class was introduced in 2013 and was known for its bold design and advanced technology. It was the first S-Class to be available with a 3D driver display and a rear-seat entertainment system with Amazon Fire TV. The W222 was also the first S-Class to be available with rear-wheel steering, which improves handling and parking. Seventh Generation (W223; 2021–Present)

The seventh generation of the S-Class was introduced in 2021 and is the most technologically advanced S-Class yet. It is the first S-Class to be available with a 48-volt mild hybrid powertrain and a rear-wheel steering system that can turn the rear wheels up to 10 degrees. The W223 also features a number of new safety features, such as a system that can automatically brake the car if it detects that the driver is about to fall asleep.
